Plant Pajamas: Easy Way to Protect Plants in Cool Weather

by Jacqueline D'Elia on October 23, 2008

Okay, we are approaching the time when you have to cover plants during overnight frosts. In the past, I’d gather all the old sheets and blankets I’ve stored in the garage. I would carefully place them over my tender favorite plants. Perfect…. right? …. wrong! The next morning, I find the wind blew half of them off during the night! Ugh! So the next night, I weigh them down with bricks, rocks, pieces of wood, you name it. Lots of work! Never mind the ficus tree. It is about 8 feet tall. I usually have to drag it sideways into the garage on those nights in winter where we get down into the 20’s. I wish I had a bag to cover my ficus and then tie it tight at the bottom. This way I could leave it outside! Because in Houston, within a few days it will be back in the 50’s or 60’s! Then I would have to drag the ficus outside again.  I finally found these reusable fleece bags that make covering your plants and keeping the covers ON THE PLANTS, so easy. They’re like pajamas for your plants.

Cool Weather Plant Protection: These large fleece covers are made from soft green, high quality plastic fleece, these jackets with drawstrings give instant protection against moderate frosts and damaging cold winds. Fleece allows light and moisture to filter through without condensation, maintaining healthy growth. Very useful for protecting tender hanging baskets and containers when they are first brought out in Spring. Also, for extending the life of attractive planters during early frosts in Fall. It’s so easy and quick to slip them on at nightfall, then remove them next morning. The string pull makes it so easy to keep the cover snug all night. Three sizes of fleece covers available at Olive Barn
